Napoli forward Victor Osimhen is on the verge of being crowned joint top scorer of the 2022 African Nations Cup qualification series after the Nigerian hit his fifth goal of the campaign to tie Zambia’s Paston Daka at the top of the list.
Osimhen scored Nigeria’s first goal in the 3-0 demolition of the Crocodiles of Lesotho in the dead rubber final group L game for both nations at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Surulere, Lagos on Tuesday.
The 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer has now scored against the same team twice in the qualification series to equal the feat performed by Odion Ighalo who scored against Libya home and away on the road to emerging top scorer of the qualifiers for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with seven goals.
Standing between Victor Osimhen and this record among others are Morocco’s Hakim Ziyech and Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar who are both on three goals each and will be in action later tonight.
Morocco will be hosting already eliminated Burundi in a group E dead rubber while Cameroon will also play host to the Amavubi of Rwanda who need to win and hope Mozambique beat visiting Cape Verde to book their flight to the 33rd Nations Cup
