2022 AFCON Qualifiers: Eagles Camp Bubbles As Aribo, Balogun, Iwobi; 18 Players Now In Camp

The Super Eagles’ Eko Hotels and Suites nest came alive late Monday night following the arrival of Rangers of Scotland duo of Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun as well as Everton’s Alex Iwobi, free-scoring RC Genk striker, Paul Onuachu and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.

The Enyimba duo of goalkeeper John Noble and winger Anayo Iwuala also breezed in after helping the Peoples Elephant to a 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars of Akure at the Agege stadium in Lagos. Abia Warriors’ Adekunle Adeleke is also in the team’s nest after he arrived Monday morning.

The arrivals brought the total number of players in camp to 18 as the Eagles continue with their preparations for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Squirrels of Benin Republic this Saturday at the Stade Charles de Gaulle in Porto Novo.

Aribo and Balogun were early this month crowned Scottish Premiership champions and will be in very positive mood as Nigeria is eager to seal their ticket to the African mundial on Saturday before playing Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos next Tuesday.

The Super Eagles are expected to continue with their fitness training at the Eko Hotel fitness centre at 10am Tuesday before hitting the Teslim Balogun stadium at 4.30pm later in the day.

Nigeria tops Group L with eight points from four games, one more than their opponent on Saturday, Benin Republic who are a point behind.
