According to the schedule, The Nigerian national team will open its group stage with a home game against fellow West Africans, the Lone Stars of Liberia between 5 – 8 June, 2021.
And between 11 – 14 June, 2021, Cape Verde will play host to Nigeria, between 1 – 4 September 2021, Nigeria will welcome Central African Republic in their third group encounter.
While between 5 – 7 September 2021, Central African Republic will to Nigeria in the return fixture and between 6 – 9 October 2021, the return leg of Liberia versus Nigeria holds.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will thereafter conclude their group qualifying campaign for the 2022 World Cup between 10 – 12 October, 2021 by laying siege for Cape Verde at home.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles need to top Group C to reach the final qualifying round which will be a home-and-way knockout fixture against one of the leaders of the other groups.
That fixture will hold in the month of November 2021 and the first leg will be played between 9 – 11 November, 2021 while the return leg will take place between 14 – 15 November.
Meanwhile, CAF have fired a stern warning that teams risk heavy sanctions if they fail to host their games on standard natural grass or on the latest generation of synthetic pitches.
This followed the use of some sub-standard pitches like the Siaka Stevens Stadium pitch in Freetown, Sierra Leone which hosted the Super Eagles in a 2022 AFCON qualifier in November.
