Super Eagles new invite Adeleke Adekunle has expressed his excitement at getting his first call-up to the Nigerian senior national team.
Adekunle alongside Enyimba International duo of goalkeeper John Noble and winger Anayo Iwuala were the three home-based players named in the 24-man Eagles squad for the AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho.
In a chat with Complete Sports, Adeleke Adekunle said his invitation is a big motivation for him and other home-based players that their efforts in the Nigerian Professional Football League did not go unnoticed.
“I am very excited to be invited to the national team. It was like a dream come true for me,”
“I was initially in the stand-by list but later included in the main team which for me, is a big honour because it is the dream of every player to play his country.
“It is also a big motivation for me and others because it shows that our efforts playing in the NPFL is being noticed,” Adekunle said adding that the experience will go a long way to further enhance his career.
“It’s been a very wonderful experience so far because the coaches and all the other players made me feel at home.
“I believe training alongside all the established players in the Eagles will also make me a better player if I continue to work hard the way they are doing,” concludes Adekunle who have made 12 appearances for Abia Warriors in the NPFL this season.
