Ajax dump Maduka Okoye for record-breaking Gorter

Ajax seem to have dropped their interest in Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye and have moved for another goalie in the just ended Dutch Eredivise.

The reigning Eredivise champion were linked with the Nigerian early this year with Okoye’s gaffer at Sparta Rotterdam even confirming the interest of the former European champions.

Okoye’s impressive display in his first season in the Eredivise especially in Sparta’s last five games and how he ensured the club secured a Euro play off spot was thought was enough for Ajax to activate their interest in the Nigerian. Reports however suggest Ajax are looking elsewhere for a replacement for Cameroun goalkeeper, Andre Onana.

According to Voetbal International, Ajax are hoping to sign Go Ahead Eagles goalkeeper Jay Gorter.
The 20-year-old has had an excellent campaign with Go Ahead Eagles, keeping a record-breaking 25 clean sheets in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.

Gorter has been linked with Vitesse Arnhem, but he is now heading for Amsterdam, with Voetbal International reporting that Ajax are in talks with Go Ahead Eagles over a fee.

Gorter would be the second goalkeeper to join Ajax this summer after Remko Pasveer. He may be a replacement for Andre Onana, who is expected to depart the club.

Gorter spent some time in the Ajax academy but he left for AZ Alkmaar and then joined Go Ahead Eagles in 2018. He has made 42 appearances for the Deventer club.
