It has been a remarkable season so far for Leicester City.
In the last one month in particular, the Nigerian duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi have been pivotal to the Foxes big strides towards a top four finish in the Premier League and a FA Cup semi-final spot.
Iheanacho scored seven goals in four games for the Foxes in March, hitting five in three Premier League games and a brace in the 3-1 defeat of Manchester United in the FA Cup quarterfinals.
Ndidi also put up man-of-the-match performances during the month and was deservedly named alongside Iheanacho in Whoscored Premier League team-of-the-month.
Brendan Rodgers’ side sit in third place in the Premier League table and have reached the semi-final stage of the FA Cup for the first time since 1982 and will need the two Nigerians in their squad to replicate their performances in March for the remainder of the season.
However, their two upcoming fixtures will go a long way to deciding whether the Foxes’ campaign will end in memorable style or not.
First up is a trip to London Stadium on Sunday to take on high-flying West Ham United.
Just four points separate the sides after David Moyes’ side climbed into the top four with a Jesse Lingard-inspired 3-2 victory at Wolves on Monday night.
Leicester know that they will need to be at their best to contain the Hammers, as well as talisman Lingard, and take a giant leap towards Champions League qualification.
Should they leave east London empty-handed, they will find themselves dragged into the thick of the top-four race, with Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Everton all lurking.
A chance for silverware
Seven days later, the Foxes will travel to Wembley Stadium to take on Southampton in the FA Cup semi-final.
Leicester are looking to reach the FA Cup final for the fifth time in their history, but they will face stern opposition to get there.
Despite sitting in 13th place in the Premier League table, the Saints have the quality to beat anyone on their day, particularly if predatory striker Danny Ings is on form.
Victory will see Leicester set up a final with either Chelsea or Manchester City, with the chance to make history by securing their first-ever FA Cup.
Defeat, however, will be a disappointing end to an FA Cup campaign carrying so much promise after their commanding 2-1 victory over Manchester United at the quarter-final stage.
A successful end to this campaign will mean all the more to Leicester after their disappointing end to the 2019/20 season.
After a scintillating first half of the season, the Foxes fell away after the new year and missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the season after a home defeat to Manchester United.
The upcoming week will be key as Leicester look to finish this season in unforgettable fashion and vanquish the ghosts of the 2019/20 campaign.
