Alcorcon – Former Flying Eagles stars, Umar Sadiq and Kelechi Nwakali’s clash in the Spanish Segunda Division ended in a goalless draw Monday.
Sadiq fired blanks and could only bag a 90 minute yellow card for Almeria who were held to a scoreless draw at home at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos by Nwakali’s Alcorcon.
The two Nigerians started the game with Sadiq playing the entire duration of the tie while Nwakali featured for 81 minutes before being replaced by Fidel Escobar.
Sadiq was the arrowhead of Almeria’s attacking line in a 4-2-3-1 formation while Nwakali pulled the strings in Alcorcon’s midfield in a 3-5-2 formation.
The 24-year old Sadiq has been in superb scoring form for Almeria this season having banged in 14 goals and provided five assists in 26 appearances while Nwakali is now getting games under his boot, making his sixth start in six appearances for Alcorcon following his switch from LaLiga side, SD Huesca.
Sadiq’s sterling display has earned him a call-up to the national team for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho while 22-year old Nwakali is trying to get his career back on track at Alcorcon having struggled for playing time at struggling LaLiga side SD Huesca. He started just once and clocked 138 minutes in five appearances in the Spanish top flight.
Almeria still remain second on the log with 56 points, one more than Espanyol in third and four behind Real Mallorca who are topping the log with 60 points all from 29 games.
The point also moved Alcorcon one point above the relegation zone. Nwakali’s club now has 30 points from 29 games, one above Castellon in 19th position while Ramon Azeez’s Cartagena are 20th on the log.
