Sammy Ameobi is currently missing in action after the England-born Nigerian attacker suffered a knock to his knee, according to Middlesbrough manager, Neil Warnock.
Middlesbrough’s preparations for the new season started with a pre-season friendly trip to Heritage Park as they met Bishop Auckland on Wednesday with Ameobi absent.
Warnock has, however, come out to explain the reason for the absence of Ameobi at Bishop Auckland even as Boro won 3-0 with new recruit, Uche Ikpeazu getting a goal.
“Sammy Ameobi has a knock to his knee but hasn’t been able to get a scan on it yet because he’s self-isolating after his wife tested positive for covid,” Warnock said.
“His self-isolation period ends on Friday, so Ameobi will then get a scan on Saturday and the results will determine whether he joins the squad on the trip south.”
