Ansu Fati will have another operation on Thursday

Ansu Fati is having no luck with injury this season and, in a further setback, he will undergo more surgery on Thursday in a bid to finally put an end his problems.

The 18-year-old winger has been troubled by a meniscus tear in his left knee since last November, but with the latest surgical intervention it is hoped he will be raring to go again next season.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Ansu Fati will be operated on by the Portugal national team doctor on Thursday in Gijon.

The decision comes after weeks of specialist consultations, not only with Dr Antonio Maestro in Gijon but also with Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet, a knee specialist based in Lyon.

Both doctors, along with Dr Ramon Cugat, who has previously operated on Ansu Fati, have been in touch with each other in recent weeks in order to create a personalised plan for the player.

One of the options on the table is a partial removal of the meniscus, which would have a recovery period of several months.

Ansu Fati’s season got off to such a great start, starring for Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona and forcing his way into Luis Enrique’s plans for the Spanish national team, but now he’ll be hoping he can pick up where he left off when he is finally able to play again next season.
