After viewing a number of gyms in the United States following his unanimous decision loss to Usyk, Britain’s heavyweight star has stated that he may add an American-based trainer to his staff.
Hunter suffered a points loss to Usyk in 2017, which remains the only blemish on his record, and he expected the pound-for-pound star to take Joshua’s WBA, IBF and WBO titles.
Hunter told Sky Sports, “It went precisely how I said it was going to go.”
“Anthony Joshua followed my instructions to the letter. I wouldn’t blame everything on him, whether it was his game plan, his strategic game plan, or his trainers.
“It wasn’t the ideal strategy for him to go out there and try to box a pure boxer, but I believe he can improve in the next bout.”
Following the activation of a clause for an instant rematch, Joshua is ready to battle Usyk again early next year.
“I simply think I’d be able to educate him or show him a lot of different things, because he’s definitely a fighter, but I feel like he doesn’t really understand the laws of fighting.
“He knows the rules, but I get the impression he doesn’t know how to put them into practice.
“We may look at Andre Ward as an example of one of these people. He isn’t particularly gifted, but he is quite strategic in his actions.
“We all know Anthony Joshua is still learning the ropes. Since the Olympics, he’s continued to develop. He’s only going to improve.
“I believe he will succeed. It’s an excellent chance for him to exact his vengeance.”
After his loss to Usyk, Hunter moved up to heavyweight, where he joined the top division after winning the undisputed cruiserweight champion.
The American boxer has defeated opponents such as Martin Bakole and Sergey Kuzmin en route to a No. 2 WBA ranking, and he would enjoy a rematch with Usyk.
“It’s a little bit better for me because, out of the rest of those guys, I don’t think anyone but Usyk would fight me,” Hunter said.
“The fact that it’s in Usyk’s hands and could stay there provides me a chance to earn all of the belts.” That is why I am here.
“I’d like to face the best and earn these prestigious labels, but at the end of the day, all I want is to be undisputed – and that’s exactly what I’m aiming for.
