Spurs manager Jose Mourinho:
“We played really bad in the first half – 1-1 was not a fair reflection. We were poor; defending bad, no intensity, some important players hiding. We only had space to improve and we did; the game was under control, we recovered what we’d lost in the first half and then the penalty. After the penalty and Lamela’s second yellow card, the team tried to get a different result”
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta:
“It was incredible. Going 1-0 down the way we were playing was disappointing and worst case scenario against a team like Spurs. But we kept playing and deserve the win. The last 10 minutes we did not manage the game and we need to improve on as a team. We relied on luck. With the way we played we should have seen it out comfortably”
Spurs captain Hugo Lloris:
“The feeling is that in the first half they were much better than us, more aggressive. We scored a goal and I think we should have managed the game better and not conceded just before half time. In the second half it was a bit better but we had to wait to get a red card to increase our intensity. Then we were close to coming back, but at the end it’s a loss and a big disappointment”
Arsenal match-winner Alex Lacazette:
“It’s amazing – we wanted to win for us, but also for the fans. It was really important for usto win this game. When we’re winning we have some problems to manage the game, even 11 against 10, so we have to improve on that. The penalty was a bit stressful because back in the day I took a lot of penalties against Hugo Lloris but I was quite confident”
Premier League pundit Ian Wright:
“It was a very good Arsenal performance. I expected a lot more from Spurs, you thought they would cause Arsenal problems, but Arsenal did more than enough to win. Spurs didn’t Arsenal under any pressure and Arsenal had total control of the game.”
