Taiwo Awoniyi and Anthony Ujah are working their way back from injury but Union Berlin‘s Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund comes too early for the Nigerian duo.
In simple language, the pair of Awoniyi and Ujah will not play any part in Wednesday’s German top-flight encounter between Dortmund and Union at the Signal Iduna Park.
Awoniyi has been out for over two months since suffering a thigh injury during Union’s 0-0 draw with Schalke 04 in a Bundesliga game at the Alte Foersterei on February 13.
Union confirmed then that the Nigerian forward who has hit the back of the net five times and made an assist in 19 league appearances could be out of action for many weeks.
The Liverpool loanee has missed eight league ties versus Freiburg, Hoffenheim, Arminia Bielefied, Cologne, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hertha Berlin, Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart.
Boss, Urs Fischer said at his pre-match media conference on Tuesday: “Taiwo Awoniyi and Anthony Ujah are working back from injury and are not available for selection on Wednesday.”
Union will also be without Awoniyi’s compatriot, Ujah through injury as he is still recovering from a knee problem. Ujah is yet to make a German top-flight appearance this season.
