Report ‘Barcelona Secures Joao Cancelo in Permanent Transfer from Manchester City’ Barcelona and Manchester City are said to have reached an agreement regarding the permanent transfer of Joao Cancelo.
The 29-year-old joined Camp Nou on loan from Manchester City towards the end of the summer transfer window. He has made five appearances for the Catalan team this season, scoring twice and assisting once.
Currently, Cancelo is set to return to the Etihad Stadium next year, as he is under contract with the treble winners until the summer of 2027. However, it’s unlikely he’ll play for Manchester City again due to a strained relationship with their head coach, Pep Guardiola.

When asked about a potential permanent move to Camp Nou in the upcoming summer transfer window, Cancelo mentioned that his focus is solely on performing for Barcelona.
Barcelona’s new director of football, Deco, has expressed the club’s openness to signing Cancelo on a long-term basis in June 2024. Reports from El Chiringuito suggest that an agreement has been reached for Barcelona to acquire Cancelo next summer for a fee of €35m (£30.3m).
Cancelo spent the latter part of the previous season on loan at Bayern Munich, making 21 appearances, scoring once, and providing six assists. However, Bayern Munich chose not to make the loan move permanent, resulting in Cancelo’s return to Manchester for pre-season training.
Barcelona’s acquisition of Cancelo was considered uncertain due to the club’s financial challenges. However, they successfully secured his services on loan before the transfer window closed.
Cancelo has been a significant contributor to Manchester City’s success in recent years, with 154 appearances, nine goals, and 22 assists for the club. Since his arrival at Camp Nou, he has become Barcelona’s preferred right-back, showcasing his prowess with goals in recent victories over Real Betis and Celta Vigo.
Once again, Cancelo is anticipated to start in the upcoming La Liga match against Sevilla, where Barcelona aims to bounce back to victory after a 2-2 draw with Mallorca in their previous outing.
