Bayern Munich on verge of matching Manchester United’s Champions League record

Bayern Munich have the chance to make history when they welcome Paris Saint-Germain to the Allianz Arena in the Champions League quarter finals on Wednesday.

The German giants are unbeaten in their last 19 matches in the Champions League, including the 2020 final against Wednesday’s opponents in Lisbon.

The unbeaten record in this competition is held by Manchester United, who went 20 matches without defeat between 2007 and 2009.

During those years, United – coached by Alex Ferguson and starring Cristiano Ronaldo – reached two consecutive finals, winning one in 2008.

As part of that run of 20 games unbeaten, United won nine and drew four before losing to Barcelona in the 2009 final in Rome.

As for Bayern, they won 11 games in a row on their way to picking up the Champions League trophy last campaign. This season, they’ve won seven and drawn one of their eight fixtures in Europe.

The firepower of Robert Lewandowski has been one driving force behind this streak, with the Pole scoring 22 of Bayern’s 67 goals in their last 19 games.
