Italian Serie A side, Bologna have joined the scramble for Nigerian international forward Simy Nwankwo, according to media reports in Italy.
The club, formed in 1909 have now joined such Serie A teams as Fiorentina, AC Milan and Udinese as well as Serie B side, Monza in the race for the 29 year old Nigerian who scored 20 times in the Italian top flight last season despite playing for lowly Crotone who were relegated back to Serie B at the end of last season.
Bologna have turned their attention to the Nigerian as plan B if their plan to lure Shanghai SIPG forward Marko Arnautovic to the Renato Dall’Ara fails to work out.
Simy is Crotone’s all-time top scorer with 62 goals from 151 appearances in all competitions since joining the club five years ago.
His contract with Crotone runs out on June 30, 2022.
The Crotone striker’s 30 Serie A goals across three seasons from 82 games made him Nigeria’s top scorer ever in the tough Serie A, supplanting former Inter Milan forward, Obafemi Martins who scored 28 times in 88 appearances across four seasons.
