Josh Warrington knows it’s sink or swim time in the featherweight division as he prepares for the biggest fight of his career against Mauricio Lara. While there are no titles on the line, the Mexican inflicted the Leeds Warrior’s first professional career defeat back in February, when he was stopped in devastating fashion by Lara.
Warrington, who did not look himself all night, was dropped in the fourth being temporarily recovering.
Yet the heavy-handed Lara was not prepared to let him off the hook, knocking him out in the ninth with a savage left hook.
Six months later and Warrington is ready to right the wrongs of that night at Wembley Arena as he looks to put himself back in the title picture where huge all-British world championship fights with Kid Galahad and Leigh Wood potentially await him.
Undisputed women’s lightweight champion Katie Taylor is also back in action as she defends her belts against Jennifer Han in the chief support.
The majestic Conor Benn is also looking to move a step closer to the likes of Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr as he gets ready to go to war with Adrian Granados.
Benn was due to trade leather with the Mexican at Fight Camp before he tested positive for COVID-19 on fight week.
Lara and Granados’ compatriot Jovanni Straffon is also in town as he looks to pull off another shock against Maxi Hughes following his devastating stoppage of James Tennyson back in May.
