Former Nigerian international forward Odion Ighalo is now left with just two Premier League games to score for Manchester United this term and say his final farewell after he was left out of the matchday squad for the FA Cup fourth round game against Liverpool at Old Trafford Sunday evening.
Ighalo has not featured in the competition for the Red Devils this term and will not feature again if Manchester United make it to the next round later this evening at the expense of Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Interestingly, the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer scored thrice in three appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side last season in the competition and had banked on his gaffer’s promise of getting a look-in when they visited his old club, Watford a forthnight ago.
With the Nigerian not in the squad for the Liverpool tie, his focus will now shift to the two Premier League games on Wednesday at Old Trafford against Sheffield United and at the Emirates against Arsenal in what would be a revenge game on Saturday.
Ighalo has appeared just four times for United this term, playing twice in the EFL Cup where he made his two starts and two cameo appearances in the Premier League where he featured for just nine minutes in the 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford last September and the one minute he played in the UEFA Champions League loss at Old Trafford to Paris Saint Germaine last December, a game that is looking increasingly his farewell game for his boyhood club before his loan deal expires on Sunday January 31,2021.
