Breaking… No El-Clasico in Spanish Super Cup final as Madrid are dumped out

Football fanatics all across the world will not be treated to yet another El-Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup as the former are out of the competition.

Madrid were knocked out in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup after falling 2-1 to Athletic Bilbao in an encounter which was played at the Estadio La Rosaleda on Thursday night.

Raul García put Bilbao 1-0 up in the 18th minute off a Dani García assist, the former netted a penalty on 38 minutes while Karim Benzema got Madrid’s consolation goal in the 73rd minute after a VAR check.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi is said to be hopeful of returning to action for Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup final where Barcelona will face Bilbao.

Barca beat Real Sociedad 3-2 on penalty shoot-out on Wednesday to reach the final after full time and extra time had ended 1-1.
