Breaking: Nwakali eyes first Laliga game in 2021

By Sulaiman Alao

Nigerian midfielder Kelechi Nwakali is still waiting to make his first LaLiga appearance for SD Huesca in the new year.

Huesca will go on the road trip to Coliseum Alfonso Pereza where they will take on Getafe today in a LaLiga Week 19 clash.

Nwakali had made it to the bench as an unused substitute for the 7th consecutive time in Huesca’s 0-2 home loss to Real Betis at the weekend. The 22-year old has only played for 26minutes this year in the 2-1 Copa del Rey loss to Alcoyano on January 7th.

The former Golden Eaglets captain has made one start and 4 substitute LaLiga appearances for Huesca, clocking 138 minutes so far this season.

Nwakali is finding regular playing time difficult to come by as he has to compete with eight Spanish players for shirt in the midfield.

Nwakali is down on the pecking order behind Pedro Mosquera (18 games), David Ferreiro (18 games), Borja Garcia (16 games), Javi Ontiveros (15 games) Mikel Rico (13 games), Sergio Gomez (12 games) Jaime Seoane (11 games) and Juan Carlos (11 games).

The Nigerian has to make do with cameo roles alongside Cote d’Ivoire junior international Idrissa Duombia who has made six LaLiga appearances clocking 93 minutes and Eugeni Valderrama with three games clocking 114 minutes.

Huesca sit at the bottom of the LaLiga table with 12 points after 18 games while Getafe are 13th on the log with 20 points after 17 games.
