Mauricio Pochettino has ended his trophy hoodoo after leading PSG to a 2-1 victory in the Trophee des Champions final against Marseille Wednesday night at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens, France.
The Trophée des Champions is a French association football trophy contested in an annual match between the champions of Ligue 1 and the winners of the Coupe de France. It is equivalent to the Super Cups found in many countries.
A first half goal by Mauro Icardi and a late (85th minute) penalty by Neymar ensured Pochetino began his PSG reign with a trophy after coming close twice in the past, leading Tottenham Hotspur to the final of the Champions League in 2019 before losing 2-0 to Liverpool. He had four years earlier led Tottenham to the League Cup final before losing 2-0 to Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea at Wembley.
