Former Nigeria U-23 star Sadiq Umar has been named the player of the month of January in Spanish football’s second (segunda) division.
Sadiq Umar is just three months old in Spain after joining Almeria from Serbia side, Partizan Belgrade last October but the gangling forward has made immediate impact since his arrival, scoring 11 league goals and four assists in 20 appearances.
The Nigerian was named January’s best player ahead of Las Palmas midfielder Sergio Ruiz and Girona defender Espinosa Bernardo.
Sadiq who was enquired about by Sevilla in the last transfer window scored seven times in the last month with five of the goals coming in the league including his first hat-trick on Spanish soil in Almeria’s 3-1 defeat of Ponferradina at the start of the month.
The former Glasgow Rangers forward also netted a brace in his club’s 5-0 defeat of LaLiga Santander side, Deportivo Alaves in a Copa Del Rey third round tie.
