Sofoluwe – Former Super Eagles defender, Yisa Sofoluwe on Tuesday died at the age of 53 after battling illness.
Sofoluwe, nicknamed Dean of Defence by legendary radio commentator, Ernest Okonkwo for his defensive prowess won 40 caps for the Super Eagles and scored one goal.
He held sway in the right full-back position between1983 and 1988, playing at the 1984 and 1988 African Nations Cups.
He also played for the defunct Abiola Babes of Abeokuta, IICC of Ibadan, Gateway football Club of Abeokuta.
Former Nigerian international and Ex-Eagles coach, Samson Siasia while lamenting Sofoluwe’s death said: “They just left him to die like that.
“Someone who had toiled hard for the country, he was just left alone without money to take care of himself.”
