Norrie’s victory over Dimitrov marked his 46th match win of the season so far, putting him in fifth place for the most wins in 2021.
Speaking to 18-time Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova on Amazon Prime Video after the match, he said: “The match against diego gave me a lot of confidence to do it in that fashion so I felt really good and really comfortable coming out today.”
Calling it the “biggest win of [his] career for sure”, Norrie gave his opponent credit for his performance in the second set.
“He made it difficult in the second set there, he was slicing a lot and making it tough these and taking my legs a little bit too,” the new British No 1 said.
Norrie’s run to the final also puts him in contention to make the year-end ATP Finals in Turin, and though he admitted he wasn’t thinking about the race to make the tournament during the match, he said: “I think that’s on the cards now so that’s really special and it’s really cool tobe in the conversation.”
