Champions League qualification in danger for six of the 12 Super League founders

The proposed European Super League would’ve guaranteed a place in an elite competition for 12 of the continent’s top clubs, yet there are no such assurances when it comes to the Champions League.

Six of the 12 founding Super League sides are currently at risk of not qualifying for Europe’s premier competition next season, and some of those might not even make it into the Europa League.

Arsenal are currently ninth in the Premier League, while Liverpool are in sixth place in England’s top flight. Then there is Tottenham, who are sixth.

Chelsea, who are in the semi finals of the current edition of the Champions League, are not assured of their place next season.

The Blues are fourth in the Premier League, with Thomas Tuchel’s men level on points with fifth-placed West Ham.

Juventus, meanwhile, are fourth in Serie A, just two points ahead of Napoli. After nine straight Scudetti, failure to qualify for the Champions League would represent a debacle for the Old Lady.

AC Milan are second in Italy, but Napoli in fifth are just three points behind, a margin that can hardly be trusted.

The three Spanish representatives of the Super League – Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona – have their Champions League place assured it seems, as well as Manchester City and Manchester United
