Samuel Chukwueze is being assessed ahead of the UEFA Europa League final involving Villareal and Manchester United at the Stadion Energa Gdansk in Poland on Wednesday.
Villarreal chief trainer, Unai Emery has stated that he is very much optimistic of having Chukwueze back and fully fit for the Europa League final against Man United.
Chukwueze was stretchered off in Villarreal’s semi-final against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium early May and it was confirmed he had sustained a muscular damage to the quadriceps in his left leg.
The Nigerian international was, however, pictured resuming training with his team-mates last week Wednesday, a very strong indication that he is in the frame to make an appearance against the Red Devils.
Chukwueze’s return to training came after Villarreal manager, Emery revealed that he was doubtful for the 2020/21 La Liga season final tie against Real Madrid on Saturday.
The Super Eagles attacking sensation duly missed the Yellow Submarine’s 2-1 defeat to Madrid last weekend but he was pictured to have travelled with the team to Poland for the Europa final.
“Unai Emery has refused to rule out Chukwueze’s chances of making the Europa final but having failed to make the cut against Madrid, the attacker is still a major doubt for the showpiece event,” sportsmole wrote.
Should Chukwueze play, he would be a massive boost to Villarreal’s chances of causing an upset, having scored once and made three assists in eleven games in the competition this season.
Till date, the only notable trophy the 21-year-old Super Eagles forward has won is the FIFA Under-17 World Cup with the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria back in the year 2015.
He got bronze with Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations in Egypt in 2019. With Villarreal meeting United in the Europa final, he is a game shy of winning his maiden club title.
