Courtois is hero of Real Madrid’s comeback

Real Madrid’s comeback in LaLiga Santander has been down to Thibaut Courtois. The goalkeeper has been key in Los Blancos’ run of four straight wins, which have pulled them close to Atletico Madrid.

More than just winning their last four, Real Madrid have conceded just once – Javi Galan’s stunner for Huesca – and kept three clean sheets.

On Saturday, Real Valladolid tried in every way possible to beat him, but the Belgian was impenetrable. Courtois has had a spectacular season, and his performances have often been overshadowed by disappointing showings from the team.

But this weekend his saves were rewarded. Ultimately, it was because of him that Zinedine Zidane was able to celebrate three points at the end of the night.

Courtois was monumental and he was at his best from the very start. In the sixth minute, he was already proving decisive as he made a big save to deny what looked a certain Valladolid goal.

There were more big saves to come, and it came as a shock for Valladolid that they never managed to find a way to goal.

It was because of the Belgian that Casemiro’s goal in the second half was enough for the champions to take three points back to Valdebebas.
