Antonio Di Gennaro, a World Cup winner with Italy in 1986, has criticised Cristiano Ronaldo after Juventus were dumped out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage by Porto.
Whilst commentating on Manchester United and AC Milan’s Europa League tie, the 62-year-old made the claim that Cristiano’s achievements do not match up to Lionel Messi’s.
“The years go by for everyone, and I think Cristiano Ronaldo has disappointed more than Messi,” Di Gennaro said on RAI.
“I’ve never seen him so out of the game. With all due respect to Porto, but an elimination like this has to be analysed very carefully, and as great a club as Juve are, they will have to understand what happens next year.”
Cristiano experienced a lot of success in his nine years with Real Madrid, adding four Champions League winners’ medals to the one he got with Manchester United earlier in his career, but his three years in Turin have seen the Bianconeri knocked out in the quarter-finals against Ajax (2019) and in the last 16 against Lyon (2020) and Porto (2021).
