The Argentina international was substituted during the second half of the 2-1 defeat after sporting director Leonardo had informed Mauricio Pochettino of the incident.
Pochettino immediately replaced Di Maria with Leandro Paredes before accompanying the former Real Madrid forward to the dressing room.
According to L’Equipe, Leonardo later confirmed to reporters that Di Maria left the field because of a break-in at his home.
Reports from RMC indicated that Di Maria’s family had been home when burglars robbed the house.
There were moments of tension during the incident because of the fact that Di Maria’s family were at home at the time.
This tension was fuelled by reports in the French media that the player’s wife and children had been kidnapped for a brief period of time.
A similar situation also reportedly occurred to Marquinhos, whose parents were home when his house was broken in to.
It’s certainly a stressful time for Di Maria and his wife, who were subject of a robbery during their time living in Manchester. The latter had to take down all images of their home she had posted on social media.
