Nigerian striker Simy Nwankwo will be seeking for his record extending 20th Serie A goal when his club, Crotone host league leaders Inter Milan at the Ezio Scida today.
The Super Eagles 2018 FIFA World Cup forward will also be seeking for not only his first goal in two appearances against the team from Milan, he will also be eyeing a revenge following the 6-2 drubbing his club suffered in their first meeting at the Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro stadium) in January.
Simy only played for 29 minutes in the game but the tall Nigerian has been on a good run in front of goal and will want to add the table toppers to his list of top ranked victims like Juventus and Napoli whom he scored two goals each against in four appearances respectively.
The Nigerian has featured for Crotone in 154 games since he joined in the 2016/17 season and has scored 65 times and bagged 11 assists.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan coach Anthonio Conte has warned his players to be wary of in-form Nigerian ahead of their Serie A clash today.
Simy broke his fellow compatriot, Obafemi Martins’ Serie A goal record when his side, Crotone beat Parma 4-3 at the Stadio Ennio Tardini last weekend.
Simy now has 29 Serie A goals across three seasons in 77 appearances for Crotone, beating Martins’ record of 28 for most scored in the Italian top-flight by a Nigerian.
“My players know we’ll have to play like Inter come Saturday. If we go there thinking we can take the game lightly, we will be in for a nasty surprise,” Conte said at a press conference.
“We respect Crotone and what they are doing, they will be motivated especially with Simy as their striker and would want to prove they deserve to remain in the Serie A,” Conte said.
