Villarereal coach Unai Emery has confirmed the return to training of Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze and hinted the Super Eagle could play a part in Thursday’s EUROPA League round of 32 clash away at Red Bull Salzburg.
Chukwueze who also confirmed his return after picturing himself in training and posted on his social media handles underwent a successful groin surgery early this month and was rumoured to be out for one month but the Nigerian has recovered and will be eager to return to competitive action for the first time since January 8 2021 when he featured for the final 24 minutes in Villareal’s 4-0 away win at Celta Vigo.
Since then, the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner has missed eight games for the Yellow Submarine viz five in the LaLiga and three in the Copa Del Rey.
Meanwhile Emery is delighted to have Chukwueze back in action and could play the Nigerian at the Red Bull Arena Thursday evening as he is in desperate need for a win after failing to get the three maximum points in each of Villareal’s last five games which the Nigerian incidentally missed.
Chukwueze has started in all four Europa League games he featured for Villareal this term, providing an assist. Emery will be banking on the Nigerian import to change the gloomy picture at the club following their winless run in the league.
