Griezmann: Barcelona have the title in our hands

Antoine Griezmann ‘s brace against Villarreal moves Barcelona to within two points of leaders Atletico Madrid in LaLiga Santander.

Knowing that they’ll face Atletico at the Camp Nou on Matchday 35, Ronald Koeman’s squad know they have the title in their reach.

“We all want to win LaLiga,” Griezmann said.

“There are four teams that are fighting and trying to win all our games.

“It won’t be easy, but we have the team to do it.

“[The title favourites] are always the ones who are top of the table.

“Atletico are having an incredible season and we’re doing our best to be champions.

“We have it in our hands. We just have to win all our games.”

Griezmann’s double brings his tally for the week up to four goals in three games for Barcelona. Playing up front with Lionel Messi may be playing its part.

“I try to get in between the centre-backs, get into space, make space for my teammates…” Griezmann added.

“It’s not my natural position, but it’s an honour to be at Barcelona, with these teammates and doing my best, sometimes with goals and other times with assists.”

Guardiola: I think Eric Garcia is going to move to Barcelona

Pep Guardiola recognised after Manchester City’s Carabao Cup final victory against Tottenham Hotspur that Eric Garcia is likely to depart the club and join Barcelona.

The Catalan centre-back’s contract comes to a close on June 30 and, despite City’s attempts to get him to renew, he is set to leave on a free.

“Eric Garcia is one of my favourite players,” Guardiola recognised after City won the Carabao Cup final, a game the defender did not make the squad for.

“I would love to have 15 Eric Garcias. He’s not on the bench because I think he’s going to move to Barcelona.”

This is not the first time that Guardiola has admitted his love for Garcia, though.

“Eric Garcia is like a son. He was a guy last season that after lockdown was our best central defender,” Guardiola said at the beginning of March.

“He never made a mistake and played in the quarter-final of the Champions League.

“He’s going to play in Barcelona and that is not an average player – he is a top player. He was not selected in the last two games and it broke my heart.

“That is why it is difficult for all the managers when you have a squad. You cannot imagine what it means.”

Garcia, who has continued to be called up to the Spain squad despite his lack of game time at club level, has made just 10 appearances for City this season.
