Former Nigerian defender, Ifeanyi Udeze has called on Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr to allow Kelechi Iheanacho to spearhead the team’s attack against Benin and Lesotho in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Udeze stated this during an interview with ESPN where he said that Iheanacho’s brilliant goal-scoring form for Leicester City in the Premier League and most recently, his brace against Manchester United in the FA Cup last week are indications that the former Golden Eaglets star must spearhead the attack ahead of Osimhen.
The retired defender also stated the fact that Osimhen has been in and out of competitive football action for a while due to injuries and COVID-19 which has slowed down the pace of his game.
However, the former West Bromwich Albion defender stated that he is convinced that Iheanacho deserves to start ahead of Osimhen should Rohr decide to go with only one striker against Benin in Porto-Novo.
“I think Iheanacho should lead the team in our next two games because he has been playing and scoring for his club side lately and I believe he will score again for us,” Udeze said.
