Nigerian international forward Kelechi Iheanacho is set to set a new Premier League record barely five days after he became the first player to score on all days of the week in a single Premier League season.
The Leicester City star forward will be aiming to score the goals that will give his club the chance of playing Champions League football next season when they host Tottenham Hotspurs at the King Power stadium this Sunday and in doing so he could either equal or break a goal record set by Senegal international Papiss Cisse in the 2011/12 season.
Iheanacho has scored 12 Premier League goals this season, despite his first coming in February. Only Cisse has netted more after getting his first in February, with 13 in 2011/12.
The Super Eagles forward will be banking on his record against Tottenham in the competition to score the goals that may fire Leicester City back into the Premier League top four if either of the other two contenders, Liverpool and Chelsea stumble against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa respectively.
Iheanacho has scored twice against the north London side in seven appearances in the Premier League and will fancy his chances of scoring the brace that will take him above Cisse.
The 2013 FIAF U-17 World Cup winner has been in terrific goascoring form since he scored his first league goal of the season in the Foxes 2-0 defeat of Fulham at Craven Cottage at the start of February.
The 24 year old waited a full month before scoring his second goal of the season in the 1-1 draw at Burnley and has never looked back since then, scoring an incredible 11 goals in 11 games plus two assists to become the most lethal marksman in the competition since March.
The incredible feat ensured his nomination for March’s Player of the month award which he won. He was also nominated for the award in April but lost it to West Ham’s Jesse Lingard.
