The only Nigerian player remaining in this season’s UEFA Champions League, Zaidu Sanusi has declared his readiness for FC Porto’s game with Chelsea at the Estadio R. Sanchez Pizjuan.
Chelsea will aim to return to winning ways after their shock loss to West Brom when they travel to Seville for their Champions League quarter-final first leg with Porto on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the ‘hosts’ overcame Juventus in a thrilling fashion to book their place in the last eight while Chelsea dumped Atletico Madrid out of the tournament in the last 16 stage.
Sanusi was an unused sub in Porto’s 2-1 win over his former club, Santa Clara on Saturday, possibly rested for the bigger UCL challenge. He has scored once in 21 league appearances.
The 23-year-old Super Eagles left full-back has also scored once in eight appearances in this season’s Champions League and will have to play another game of his life versus Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Porto boss, Sergio Conceicao fears Chelsea’s 5-2 loss to West Brom will have the Blues “more awake to danger” in Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg game.
Conceicao has warned his Porto players to be wary of the wounded Blues who succumbed to a first loss under new manager, Thomas Tuchel in the Premier League right at home on Saturday.
“I would prefer that they won the last game. Because these situations make the siren sound and make everyone more alert, more awake to danger and I honestly don’t like these defeats.”
