Nigerian international midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will be seeking for his 60th win in 133 Premier League games when his side, Leicester City face Aston Villa Sunday afternoon at the Villa Park.
Ndidi has been a pivotal member of the Foxes team since he switched Belgian side, RC Genk for the Premier League in January 2017 and has gone on to be the best tackler of the ball on two ocassions in the competition.
The Super Eagle won his first Premier League game in Leicester City’s 3-1 defeat of Liverpool at the King Power stadium in February 2017.This was after he and the Foxes lost their five opening games of the year, conceding 12 goals without reply.
Ndidi will be hoping for an extension of his 100% record against the Villans who he has faced twice in the league with the Foxes claiming all three points on both ocassions.
For this to happen, the Nigerian knows a lot will depend on his tackles as well as the clinical finishes of his compatriot at the club, Kelechi Iheanacho who has scored six times in eight games against Dean Smith’s side.
Ndidi has made 520 tackles in the competition with a 63% success rate while he has had 276 interceptions and 1,116 recoveries which included the 19 he made in the 3-1 win against league’s defending champion, Liverpool last weekend at the King Power stadium which is the highest by any player in the competition so far this term.
The Nigerian has featured just 12 times for Leicester City so far this term due to injuries which forced him to miss 11 games in the Premier League. He started in 11 of the games he has played and has scored once and provided one assist.
Overall, Ndidi will make his 133rd appearance today and has started 128 of the games. He has scored seven times, provided seven assists and has been yellow carded 37 times with just two dismissals.
Meanwhile, Iheanacho is starting from the bench for the 21st time this season and 141st overall. He has been subbed on eight times this season and has started just four games. Overall, he has started just 44 of the 129 he has actually featured in and has been subbed on 85 times.
