Is Thomas Tuchel NOW at risk of the sack? Bayern Munich’s CEO dodges questions with a cryptic two-word answer – just 48 hours after he said boss was safe – as Solskjaer, Alonso and Zidane loom

Bayern Munich’s CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has delivered a cryptic two-word answer when questioned on the future of under-pressure manager Thomas Tuchel.

It’s been a tough few weeks for the Bayern boss after his side suffered a 3-0 defeat by league leaders Bayern Leverkusen, a 1- 0 loss to Lazio in the Champions League and a disasterous 3-2 defeat by VFL Bochum on Sunday.

The club are now facing the prospect of their first season without winning a trophy, with Leverkusen now eight points clear of the German Champions in the Bundesliga table and it seems Tuchel’s position could be in jeopardy.

Reports had claimed after their shock loss to Bochum that the club’s hierarchy were set to stand by Tuchel, even after the club had cancelled his post-match press conference.

The club’s CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen had said that the embattled head coach would not be dismissed, stating to BILD: ‘I don’t believe in big statements about the coach. This issue [Tuchel’s sacking] isn’t on our mind at the moment.’

Pressed on whether Tuchel would be in the job next week, he added: ‘Of course.’

Yet his position may have changed since then, with the Bayern CEO issuing a cryptic two-word answer to questions over Tuchel’s position on Tuesday morning.

The Bayern executive was seen arriving at the club’s training base on Sabener Strasse, and was seen smiling when asked ‘Is Tuchel heading for the exit?’

According to BILD, the executive responded grinning saying ‘Let’s see…’ before driving into the training complex.

It comes amid much speculation that Tuchel could be succeded by Liverpool target Xabi Alonso, who is reportedly the club’s prime target to take over at the Allianz Arena.

It is understood that the club are also ‘monitoring’ the situation of former Manchester United boss, Ole gunnar Solskjaer as a potential interim manager should they decide to part ways with Tuchel.

Sky Germany reporter, Plettenberg, claimed that there was ‘nothing concrete at this stage’ before adding that the club’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, had ‘been following Solskjaer for years’.

Antonio Conte is also reportedly keen to become the next Bayern Munich Manager, with hansi Flick having now, according to German media, is not interested in returning to Bayern and may have set his eyes on the Barcelona job, with Xavi set to leave at the end of the season.

Sky Sports also believe that the club has been interested in appointing former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.

The outlet claims: ‘There is nothing concrete at this statge, but what Bayern appreciate about the Frenchman is his aura and experience, while he is also immediately available.’

Zidane, who won three Champions League titles with Real Madrid, has been out of a job since June 2021.

His pedigree winning the illustrious European tournament could be a big sway in Bayern’s decision, should they dismiss Tuchel.
