Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi will miss Nigeria’s last Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Lesotho after testing positive for Covid-19.
Iwobi‘s Covid-19 test on arrival in Cotonou on Friday returned positive leading to the Everton star missing Nigeria’s 1-0 win over the Squirrels of Benin Republic in Porto Novo on Saturday.
The 24-year old Everton star who had been scheduled to start against Benin Republic had to be replaced by Galatasaray winger Henry Onyekuru for the game decided at the Charles De Ghaulle Stadium.
Benin Republic also missed the services of two players – Rodrigue Kossi and Jacques Bessan after the Squirrels duo tested positive for Covid-19.
Nigeria will host Lesotho on Tuesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos in a dead rubber clash with the Eagles having booked qualification as Group L leaders with 11 points after Matchday 5.
The disappointing development has also brought worry into the Eagles camp over the possibility of Iwobi inadvertently spreading the virus to other players or officials in the camp even though the player appear physically in top shape.
