Kalu, Maja could make summer moves with Bordeaux facing uncertain future

The Nigerian duo of Samuel Kalu and Josh Maja who is on loan at Fulham could make summer moves with Bordeaux facing an uncertain future.

Reports coming from France have it that Girondins Bordeaux is presently on the verge of collapsing.

Since the commencement of the season, the club has been struggling.

And this led the owner, American fund King Street to stop funding the club.

The management of the club announced that it has been placed under the protection of the Bordeaux Commercial Court.

The economic context linked to the COVID-19 pandemic and the withdrawal of Mediapro have caused an unprecedented drop in revenues for French football clubs.

These events come on top of the financial consequences that already hit clubs hard last season.

And that was due to the early closure of the season and the resulting loss of income.

While Bordeaux is heavily impacted, King Street, its owner, after investing €46m in the team since its takeover no longer wish to support the club and finance its current and future needs.

These circumstances led the president to protect the club by placing it under the protection of the Bordeaux Commercial Court.

An ad hoc representative has been appointed, who will be responsible for assisting Girondins de Bordeaux in their search for a lasting solution,” the statement reads.
