Kelechi Iheanacho Makes Premier League History

Kelechi Iheanacho has become the first player in Premier League history to score on all seven days of the week within a single season.

The Super Eagles star scored his first goal against Chelsea on his 10th attempt in his club, Leicester City’s 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge but the goal, his 12th of the season in the competition and 19 in all competitions had history written all over it as no player in the Premier League era has scored on all seven days of the week within a single season.

With Chelsea earning a two goal lead through Antonio Rudiger and Jorginho goals, Leicester’s Champions League hopes was hanging in the balance.

However, Iheanacho set up a nervy finish for Thomas Tuchel’s men in front of their returning fans by beating Edouard Mendy with a cool finish.

After Nampalys Mendy pinched the ball off Mateo Kovacic in the final third, Iheanacho was set up by compatriot, Wilfred Ndidi with a golden opportunity at goal, one which he didn’t pass up.

Iheanacho has now scored against all the major clubs in England with Crystal Palace and West Ham his biggest victims, scoring four and three times respectively against Roy Hodgson and David Moyes’ men. The Nigerian international forward scored twice against Tottenham and once each against Arsenal and Fulham.

Iheanacho scored his first two goals of the ongoing season on a Wednesday, scoring the opener in the Foxes 2-0 defeat of Fulham at Craven Cottage in February before rescuing a point off a Wilfred Ndidi assist for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the 1-1 draw against Burnley at Turf Moor at the start of March.

The Nigerian was on song again three days later, that is Saturday March 6 when he restored parity for his side before Daniel Amartey  headed in an 87th minute winner in a 2-1 defeat of their host, Brighton at the Amex stadium.

The holy Bible says God rested on Sunday during the creation of the earth and all that are therein but Iheanacho chose the day to score his first Premier League hat-trick in the Foxes’5-0 demolition of Sheffield United at the King Power stadium on March 14.

The Nigeria international chose Sunday again (April 11) to score his first Premier league goal of the new month in the 3-2 loss at the London stadium to West Ham United.

Exactly 11 days later, precisely on Thursday April 22 Iheanacho and Leicester City bounced back from the loss in London to spank visiting West Brom 3-0 at the King power stadium.

Iheanacho was the hero of the day four days later (Monday) as he assisted and scored the winner when the Foxes came from a goal down to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 before scoring a consolation goal 11 days ago as the Foxes surprsingly lost 4-2 to then relegation threatened Newcastle at the King Power stadium.

The 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner has scored 12 times in 24 appearances for Leicester City this term with 11 of the goals coming in his last 11 games.
