The mooted swap deal between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid involving Antoine Griezmann and Saul Niguez is set to be monitored by LaLiga.
In Spain, swap deals don’t actually exist and instead transfers are made independently with separate valuations.
And so, to make sure the clubs are not engaged in any accounting tricks, the league will be keeping a close eye on the deal.
The development was revealed by Radio MARCA and El Partidazo de COPE, and the latter also stated that if the selling fee for Griezmann is less than 72 million euros, then Barcelona will make a loss.
From Barcelona’s perspective, the true motivation for the deal is to make headroom for the re-signing of Lionel Messi.
But even Griezmann leaving won’t be enough, with additional sales necessary over the coming weeks.
Otherwise LaLiga will once again be getting involved to block Messi’s new contract.
