Joan Laporta vowed to ‘do everything possible’ to keep Lionel Messi at Barcelona ahead of the upcoming presidential elections.
Laporta seems to be the favourite for the Barcelona presidency and the candidate stressed he will work hard to extend Messi’s stay at Camp Nou.
The Argentine surprisingly asked to leave the Blaugrana last summer and was linked with moves to Inter, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.
But Laporta was confident when he spoke to Sky Sport about the renewal of the talisman’s contract.
“We will need a competitive sporting offer,” he said. “He’s a winner and he wants to win with Barcelona.
“I will do everything possible, there are many who want him and we will need an important offer. Money doesn’t guarantee titles.
“Messi generates more income than expenses, his cost is eight per cent of the total, he generates 30 per cent of revenue to the club.
“It’s profitable for Barcelona but the most important thing, which is priceless, is to ask a child who is the best in the world. They say Messi, immediately.”
