The priority of the new Barcelona board formed by Joan Laporta, who was recently elected as the club’s president, has been to tie Lionel Messi down to a new deal.
Despite Messi’s contract coming to an end on June 30, the two parties have yet to reach an agreement over the Argentine’s future, but Laporta has expressed his satisfaction about how negotiations are progressing.
“Everything [that has to do with Messi’s renewal] is progressing adequately,” Laporta told LaSexta’s show ‘Jugones’ on Friday.
Barcelona currently sit third in LaLiga Santander’s table, two points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, and they are set to face Athletic Club in Saturday’s Copa del Rey final.
