Lineker – Kelechi Iheanacho was the name on everyone’s lips after Leicester City’s emphatic victory over Sheffield United.
The striker smashed a superb hat-trick as the Foxes trounced the beleaguered Blades 5-0 at the King Power Stadium.
The win strengthened City’s bid to secure a Champions League and continued Iheanacho’s brilliant form. The Nigerian now has seven goals in eight games.
A man who knows a thing or two about scoring goals, former Foxes and England striker Gary Lineker, took to Twitter after the game to congratulate Iheanacho.
“Absolutely thrilled for @67Kelechi. Such a talented striker who’s showed great patience and professionalism in the shadow of @vardy7. Wonderful hattrick,” posted the Match of the Day host.
His teammates were also full of praise for him.
Ricardo Pereira wrote: Great victory today. Congrats boys, especially to @67Kelechi for your hat-trick.
Wilfred Ndidi also took the time wish issue a Mother’s Day message.
“That’s how we roll, massive win today happy for seniorman kelz. Happy mother’s day to all mothers.”
Ayoze Perez, who went straight back into the side after recovering from injury, wrote: “Great getting back out there doing what I love. Congratulations. @67Kelechi on the hat-trick.”
Gary Lineker also delivered his verdict on Leicester City’s thumping victory over Sheffield United.
The Foxes beat the Blades 5-0 at the King Power Stadium to strengthen the place in the Premier League’s top four.
Kelechi Iheanacho’s hat-trick helped to secure their biggest win of the season.
City took the lead just before half-time through the Nigerian, but then ran riot in the second half, Iheanacho taking home the match ball with two more, Ayoze Perez, and an own goal completing the scoring.
England legend and Leicester City icon Lineker took to Twitter to say: “Splendid victory for @LCFC admittedly against a beleaguered opposition. Given the number of lengthy injuries to key players this season, Brendan Rodgers has done a remarkable job in keeping them in the top 4 throughout. Well played all. Chuffed of Leicester.”
Sheffield United remain bottom of the table.
