Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists Mohamed Salah is ‘our player’ amid reports of a blockbuster switch to Saudi Arabia. Al-Ittihad are reportedly interested in making the Egyptian forward the latest in a long line of high-profile stars to move to the Saudi Pro League.
Reports have claimed that there is very strong interest from the reigning Saudi champions and that Salah would be tempted by the transfer. However, it is unlikely that Liverpool will accept a deal this close to the transfer window.
Klopp has now provided an emphatic response in an attempt to quell the speculation. The German has promised fans that Salah is Liverpool’s player and that any bid would be rejected.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Newcastle on Sunday, Klopp said: “It’s difficult to talk about media stories, as there’s nothing to talk about from our point of view. Mo is a Liverpool player, he’s essential.
“There’s nothing there. If there would be something, the answer would be no.
“Part of my life philosophy is to think about a problem when I have it, but there’s absolutely nothing at the moment. If something comes up, I don’t think or know about what, I’ll think about it. But if there was, it would be a no.”
It comes after BeIN Sports reported overnight that Salah had agreed an eye-watering £191million contract with Al-Ittihad. The deal would make him the highest-paid player in the world.
However, Salah signed a contract extension with Liverpool last summer, taking him to the end of the 2024-25 season. A representative of the 31-year-old, Ramy Abass Issa, also insisted that his client would be remaining at Anfield.
Responding to rumours earlier this summer, he tweeted: “If we considered leaving LFC this year, we wouldn’t have renewed the contract last summer. Mohamed remains committed to LFC.”
