Liverpool moved within a win of the Premier League’s summit after hammering Leeds United on Wednesday, and manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted to getting a little carried away with his celebration.
The Reds scored three goals in each half to put Leeds to the sword, improving their goal difference in the process, and their April meeting with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium is beginning to look very big.
Klopp was keen to keep his feet on the ground, with Liverpool preparing for the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea before turning their attentions back to league, FA Cup and Champions League matters.
The German’s raucous celebration painted a slightly different picture, though, as he celebrated with eight fist-pumps after two stoppage-time goals put the gloss on the Reds’ win.

“I’m not sure had it been 10 seconds later I wouldn’t have done it but in that moment I got carried away,” Klopp said after the game, before praising the crowd for the atmosphere they generated during the 6-0 win.
“I really love how the whole stadium responded tonight to the game and how we were able to win the game as a unit and I couldn’t be more thankful for the support of the people,” he continued.
“I am really happy that from time to time – it will not happen a lot – we can give them a performance and scoreline like tonight.”
While Liverpool are now just three points adrift of league leaders City, whose defeat against Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend left the door slightly ajar, Klopp recognised there is still a long way to go.
“We have 10 days until we play the next league game and we have two games in-between in completely different competitions, one is a final and the other I don’t even know, a quarter-final or a last 16 and they will be different games and we have to be ready for them as well,” the former Borussia Dortmund manager told the BBC.

“It is three points until the weekend and then City will probably win and then it will be six points. If we win all our games pretty much there will be a chance for us..
“I think for people outside it is better to have three or six point gap than to have a 20 or 30-point gap so it is more exciting but we have to win a lot of the games against all the difficult opponents and that will be a tricky task. We will give it a try.”
Man City travel to Everton on Saturday, with Liverpool’s cup exploits meaning they aren’t back in league action until March 5.
