Liverpool snubbed Chelsea bid for Darwin Nunez as Todd Boehly moment of madness emerges | Football | Sport

Chelsea reportedly made an inquiry into the availability of Liverpool star Darwin Nunez during the summer transfer window as they scoured the market for attacking reinforcements. The Blues’ approach was promptly snubbed by the higher powers at Anfield, who have since reaped the benefits.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were desperate to acquire the services of a striker ahead of the start of the season. A marquee forward was widely agreed as being a priority for the window, with numerous players approached.

However, Chelsea were forced to settle for Nicolas Jackson and managed to strike a quick-fire deal for the 22-year-old. The Senegalese international has struggled at Stamford Bridge since his arrival in the Premier League, looking more suited to a role on the wing due to his raw quality.

As a result, the Blues will be keen to right the wrongs of last summer by signing a star striker at the end of the season. Though they may opt against reigniting their interest in Nunez given their lacklustre attempt at poaching him last year.

According to The Times, the Blues approached Liverpool to explore his availability in the hope of striking a shock deal for the Uruguay international.
