Liverpool Target 5th EPL Win In A Row Against Chelsea

Liverpool could become only the second team in Premier League history to win five consecutive matches against Chelsea, after Blackburn Rovers’ seven-match run between February 1993 and May 1996.

The two sides meet Thursday evening at Anfield in a must-not-lose game with Chelsea banking on the unbeaten run of their new gaffer, Thomas Tuchel who is aiming to become only the third Chelsea manager or head coach to start his tenure with a 10-match unbeaten run in all competitions, after Jose Mourinho and Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Since an 89th minute goal by Daniel Sturridge cancelled out Eden Hazard’s 25th minute strike for Chelsea in September 2018,Chelsea have failed to win or draw in the four Premier Leagues games that followed, losing twice at Stamford Bridge in September 2019 and September 2020 and twice at Anfield in April 2019 and July 2020.

Interestingly, Chelsea defeated Liverpool twice during the period in Cup games; winning 2-1 in an EFL Cup game at Anfield in September 2018 and 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in a FA Cup game in March 2020.The London Blues however lost via penalties in the European Super Cup played in August 2019 after playing out a 2-2 draw in regulation time.

Meanwhile, Sadio Mane has scored seven goals in 16 appearances against Chelsea in all competitions, only netting more against Crystal Palace (10) and Aston Villa (eight) while Olivier Giroud has netted seven Premier League goals against Liverpool, with the Frenchman only scoring more against Aston Villa and Newcastle (nine each).
