Liverpool urged to look past ‘ignorance’ in Kalvin Phillips and Ryan Gravenberch choice | Football | Sport

“You’ve got someone who could come who’s hungry to play and wants to prove a point. If a manager doesn’t play you and you go somewhere else, every time you play against that manager, in the back of your mind is ‘I want to stick it to him’.”

Phillips made it clear at the start of the summer that he wanted to stay at the Etihad to try and fight for his place, but he’s yet to feature in either of City’s opening two Premier League matches. He said: “I came to Manchester City to win trophies and we won the trophies but I didn’t play as much as I wanted to do. My intention is to stay there.

“We have just won the Treble, so there is no reason for me to leave other than if I am not playing I will obviously have to think about it. I cannot give it 12 months and say I am not playing so I am going to leave.”
