Luis Rubiales repeatedly screams ‘I will not resign’ as press conference boils over | Football | Sport

Luis Rubiales has refused to resign as President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation. The 46-year-old screamed his innocence during a tense press conference on Friday, as the fallout continues from his controversial kiss with Jenni Hermoso after Spain’s World Cup triumph.

Rubiales was widely expected to step down on Friday during a Spanish Football Federation extraordinary general assembly. He sparked controversy by kissing Spanish football star Hermoso on the lips after Spain beat England in the Women’s World Cup final.

FIFA subsequently opened disciplinary proceedings against Rubiales, who was rumoured to have informed colleagues of his decision to step down this week.

But in a dramatic twist, Rubiales passionately protested his innocence during a startling press conference, repeatedly screaming: “I will not resign!”
