Nigeria’s first choice goalie Maduka Okoye says he is thrilled to return to Nigeria for the two 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games against the Squirrels of Benin Republic on Saturday and the Crocodiles of Lesotho next Tuesday at the Teslim Balogun stadium.
Okoye arrived the Eagles’ Eko Hotels and Suites’ nest Monday night and will be a part of the team’s fitness training Tuesday morning at the hotel’s fitness center.
‘Happy to be back home … Super Eagles time. Looking forward to the last two qualifying matches,’ he wrote on his Instagram handle with his arrival photo.
Maduka Okoye has become Nigeria’s number one goalie since after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and the injury-induced absence of Francis Odinaka Uzoho who is staging a return to the team.
Okoye has become a regular starter for Sparta Rotterdam since he switched his German Regionalliga side, Fortuna Dusseldorf for the Dutch Eredivise team last September.
He has started in all 24 games he has featured in in all competitions this term and has kept seven clean sheets in 21 league appearances.
